Within two days of packing my things, saying bye to family, and driving 2,000 miles across the country to pursue my dream of working in the entertainment industry, I was very fortunate to land an internship with Metro PR. As I’m sure most of you know, or will soon find out, the entertainment industry is one tough shell. I had the opportunity of interning with an entertainment marketing company in Chicago, but I always had my heart set to taking on the big timers in Hollywood. I was a little nervous, but mostly scared, given the fact I knew very few people with little connections to the industry. But I knew failure was not an option and that I would have to step out of my comfort zone, even if it meant picking up the phone and making cold-calls, which is how I got connected with the wonderful Metro Public Relations.
Let me just say the staff at Metro PR is awesome! The PR industry in Hollywood can be a little intimidating to some, but here at Metro, everyone is extremely helpful! As an intern, I felt like I was part of the team and because of its size, the staff actually knows who I am rather than me just being another face in the office. I worked closely with several clients including DEFY Media, collecting press hits, researching, compiling spreadsheets, and much more. The thing I enjoyed most was the intern workshop. The staff was very informative and made sure we thoroughly understood databases and work assignments. One of the events I was able to provide assistance with was the 2013 Oceana Partner Award Gala honoring former First Lady, Hillary Clinton. It was such an experience seeing the work behind red-carpet events, and obviously meeting celebrities. When researching the press coverage a week later, it was a great feeling to say I was part of such a successful event.
Metro PR has definitely given me a valuable experience. I cannot stress enough how helpful they are and I am very happy that I had the opportunity to intern with them. Down the road I know I’ll look back and remember Metro PR and everything it has taught me. I couldn’t have picked a better place to start my journey and I am very happy to call them my PR Family!
